Marking Sector Leadership Before the Crowd Notices
How to annotate weekly charts when one sector ETF begins outperforming the broad index — without waiting for headline news.
Leadership shifts rarely announce themselves with a single dramatic bar. More often, one sector ETF quietly holds above its 20-week average while others slip below theirs. On a printed weekly panel, that difference becomes visible when you compare each sector line to the SET index overlay.
Start by printing three panels: your candidate leader, the current perceived leader from last month, and the broad index. Use the same scale on each page so your eye is not fooled by auto-scaling on screen.
Mark the first higher low on the relative strength line — not the highest high. Traders who wait for the peak often enter after half the move. The higher low tells you buyers are still stepping in on dips even when the headline sector looks extended.
In our Khlong San workshops we pause here and walk the room. Most mistakes at this stage come from mixing daily noise into a weekly panel. Keep one timeframe per page.
